Natural Fertility
With an increase in infertility, natural conception and a healthy pregnancy has become an exceptionally busy area in clinic. There has been a marked increase in couples trying to conceive naturally or to assist and work alongside their IVF. Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive after 12months of unprotected intercourse. In Australia 1 in 6 couples are unable to conceive naturally. With an increase in the amount turning to IVF, IVF is successful in 35% of couples.
Wholistic Naturopath treatment that we have used in clinic has a positive outcome on fertility. Within 3-6 months of treatment there is a large increase in couple’s success rate of naturally conceiving and having a healthy pregnancy and baby.
We achieve optimal results by combining positive and holistic diet and lifestyle advice and Naturopathy treatment that couples years of traditional knowledge and the most up to date scientific research. With Naturopath treatment you will notice a boost with natural health, wellbeing and fertility. Naturopathy can assist with the major causes of infertility in men and women.
Diet, Lifestyle and Preconception Care
It’s been shown that the future health of a child begins before conception. Lifestyle factors impact significantly on fertility and a child’s health potential. These include the effects of age, illness, medication, toxins, and drugs (pharmaceutical/recreational) poor nutrition and weight problems. By addressing the diet and overall health you are ensuring your body is at its optimal for a healthy pregnancy and child. Naturopathy looks at all aspects of health- mind body and soul. We look at the diet, addresses nutritional deficiencies or excess, ensure healthy weight, energy and a balanced lifestyle.
Female Infertility
Factors that affect female fertility include hormonal imbalance, structural impediments, obesity, nutritional status, infection & inflammation, stress & lifestyle factors, digestion & liver function, drugs, libido, age, cervical mucus and mistiming intercourse.
Ovulation disorders (irregular or no ovulation) from PCOS accounts for 75% of infertility. PCOS is associated with hormonal imbalance, blood sugar regulation issues and difficulty in conceiving. Endometriosis is found in up to 40% of women who present with infertility. Fibroids, benign lumps of tissue growing on the uterus can also contribute to infertility.
Maternal obesity is associated with reduced fertility and an increased risk of gestational and fetal risks. All these are taken in to account with treatment. If you are in the early stages of pregnancy planning and unsure what is going on Lindsay is able to refer your for specific testing to get an understanding of you underlying issues.
Male Infertility
Evaluation of infertile couples has revealed that male factor infertility accounts for 68% of cases. Male infertility is the underlying reason for 40% of couples to use IVF. Factors that affect male fertility include hormonal imbalance, structural impediments, obesity, nutritional status, infection & inflammation, stress & lifestyle factors, digestion & liver function, erectile dysfunction, sperm quality, drugs, libido, age and mistiming intercourse.
In Australia it is estimated that 1 in 20 men have some kind of fertility problem with low numbers of sperm. It takes 80 days for a full spermatogenesis cycle. Because the sperm development takes over 2 month’s illness, toxicity, trauma, poor nutrition that was present during this cycle may affect the mature sperm, regardless of a man’s health at the time of examination.
An Integrated approach
With both male and female fertility we look at treating both partners and at all aspects of health. Some times with fertility it can be a combination of male & female “multiple causes” or unexplained fertility with no known medical explanation, this doesn’t necessarily mean there will be no chance of pregnancy, by improving overall health in the male and female you have an increased chance of conception.
Naturopathy treat’s the individual person and addresses all aspects of mental emotional and physical wellbeing. No two people are the same and neither is treatment. During your consult we go over your health in-depth; we take into account all aspects of your health, diet, lifestyle and wellbeing.
We treat your concerns and focus on improving your fertility. If it’s irregular periods, ovulation concerns and weight management we prioritize these but we also treat and address the other areas of health. If you have high stress levels, suffering insomnia or digestive complaints we also incorporate these into your treatment plan. Remembering it is all about balance and by improving you overall health we improve your chances of a natural pregnancy.
